Spectators got to check out a new format for the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour this past weekend in Acworth, Georgia, as well as some spectacular riding by the weekend’s big winner — Harley Clifford.
The pro tour changes are aimed at making the wake comp more of a party. With the main event now taking place on Saturday evening, and consisting of the contest finals, a big-air challenge, and a double-up contest, there was definitely more to see than ever before. Live music only further pumped up the excitement level.
But it was Clifford who put on the best show, edging out newcomer Austin Hair, along with Adam Errington, Rusty Malinoski, Phillip Soven, and JD Webb for the win. In the process Clifford landed the first-ever handlepass KGB 540 completed in a contest.
“I’m stoked,” said Clifford after taking the tour’s first round. “Sticking the KGB 5 and winning the first Pro Tour stop in the same day is just unreal.”
“We definitely left an impression in Acworth with this new format,” said the current King of Wake, Aaron Rathy. “The fans and riders were all really pumped on how things went down and to see new elements of the sport added to the Pro Tour.”
Rusty Malinoski stuck a Toeside 1080 to capture the Double Up contest. Chad Sharpe won the Rockstar Energy Drink Big Air Challenge with a massive Indy Glide.
The Acworth round of the tour will be broadcast on FUEL TV on July 20th at 8 p.m. EST.
