Surfing China’s Qiantang Tidal Bore…With Assist From Sea-Doo
Twice a year the leading edge of the incoming tide on China’s Qiantang River forms an amazing surfable wave of water that travels up the river for nearly 30 miles miles, passing the city of Hangzhou. Normally, no one but commercial traffic is allowed on the water, but with China rapidly welcoming Western cultural influences, and action sports being one of our coolest exports, for the past three years the Chinese government has allowed a select group of pro surfers to come surf the unique tidal bore known as the “Silver Dragon.”
This year’s crew of Jamie Sterling, Mikala Jones, Mary Osborne, and Robert “Wingnut” Weaver (anybody remember The Endless Summer II?) took on the wave with a little tow-in assistance from Sea-Doo watercraft. Here’s a cool little video that captured the moment…
